Nate trained as a mechanical engineer, spending several years at Andersen Corporation designing and testing the hardware that goes into their doors and windows, including an accelerated life-cycle testing machine built to push every gliding door roller and track to its limit before it ever reached a customer. That instinct, build it right, then prove it, is the same one he's brought to printing children's books.

For the last four years, Nate has been sourcing products from India and working directly with manufacturers there. Since November 2023 he's led Gateway Standard International as President, based on-site in Mumbai, where quality auditing and oversight are a daily part of the job rather than something handled remotely. His dream is straightforward: make quality goods in India, specifically children's books, good enough that publishers never have to trade cost for craftsmanship. That's why GSI keeps its team close to the factory floor, with regular, in-person checkpoints before a single carton ships.

It's personal, too. Nate is a father to a five-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter, and in a world that's increasingly all screens and AI, he's serious about getting real, well-made books in front of real kids. His daughter isn't reading yet, but she'll sit by herself flipping through the pages of a board book, making up her own sounds as she goes, her own version of reading. That's the moment GSI is trying to make possible for as many kids as it can.
